The whole concept of Stamp Duty and Property Registration is to prevent complications in the process. Both the rates are based on any one of the two key elements that are higher:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The registered price of the property<\/li>\n<li>The ready reckoner rate (this is the rate based on which the stamp duty is actually collected from the property purchasers by the Department of Stamps &amp; Registration).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Stamp Duty is the tax levied by the government of each state on all the authorized property transactions. A stamp paper that has to be bought either in the seller\u2019s name or the buyer\u2019s name is valid for six months, given that the stamp duty is paid on time. In simple terms, any type of property document is only legal when the stamp duty is paid.<\/p>\n<p>The ready reckoner rate refers to the minimum rate, which the government notifies via a registrar\/sub-registrar office of Pune for registering the property transactions.<\/p>\n<p>The registration charge is an extra tax on the stamp duty. It is usually levied so that the cost to run the registration offices can be covered by the state government.<\/p>\n<h2>How Are Stamp Duty Charges Calculated?<\/h2>\n<p>The calculation of stamp duty is not the same for all places in India. It differs from one state to the other. The central government of India fixes the registration and stamp duty charges. Any delayed payments will have 2% as a penalty every month. Besides this, the stamp duty charge also depends if a property is old or new.<\/p>\n<h2>Current Stamp Duty And Registration Charges In Pune<\/h2>\n<p>As mentioned above, the stamp duty and registration charges in Pune or in any place depend on the ready reckoner rate and the actual price of the registered property.
