Goa Road Tax

Road tax in Goa is calculated on a wide range of criteria applicable to equally wide range of class of vehicles. The taxes are levied on the basis of weight, size, age, engine power, price, place of assembly etc. The taxes are collected on a one-time basis and applicable for the life of the vehicle. Paying road taxes is a must or you should be prepared to get fined or have your vehicle seized.

Tax on 2 Wheelers:

Road tax in Goa on 2 wheelers is levied on the basis of cost of the vehicle purchased, regardless of the engine capacity, which is popularly known as cc. The rates are as follows:

Price Road tax
Up to Rs.2 lakhs 8% of cost of vehicle
Above Rs.2 lakhs 12% of cost of vehicle

Note: The rates above are applicable only on private non-transport vehicles.

Tax on 4 Wheelers:

Road taxes are levied on 4 wheelers in Goa on the basis of the cost of purchase of the vehicles. The rates are as follows:

Price Road Tax
Up to Rs.6 lakhs 8% of cost of vehicle
Above Rs.6 lakhs and up to Rs.10 lakhs 9% of cost of vehicle
Above Rs.10 lakhs 10% of cost of vehicle

Note: The rates above are applicable only on private non-transport vehicles.

How to pay Goa Road Tax?

You can pay the relevant tax amount by approaching any of the district RTO offices operating around the state. You will need to submit forms with detailed information about yourself and the vehicle in question. You may also be required to submit documents to verify vehicle ownership.

Alternatively, you can pay Goa road tax online through the official Directorate of Transport, Goa website. The site requires minimal formalities and allows you to do your tax payments from the comfort of your home.
