How to apply for Duplicate RC
There are cases where one might lose or misplace their RC, in such cases it is very important to apply for a duplicate RC as soon as possible. Only the owner of the vehicle can apply for the duplicate RC. Given below is a detailed procedure on how to apply for Duplicate RC:
- Lodge a complaint at the nearest police station in whose jurisdiction the RC was lost.
- Apply for a Duplicate RC through Form 26.
- Obtain the signature of the financier on Form 26 if the vehicle is covered by finance.
- Pay the fee as prescribed in Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1989.
- Submit Form 26 along with a copy of the complaint lodged with the police regarding the loss of RC.

How to convert RC Book to RC Smart Card
Given below is a detailed procedure on how to convert RC book to RC Book Smart Card .
- Write a letter to the superintendent of traffic in your city and state your intention of converting your vehicle’s RC book to a smart card.
- Take a copy of your vehicle’s insurance certificate.
- Take a copy of your vehicle’s emission certificate.
- Pay the prescribed fee.
- Submit the RC book with the above mentioned documents and submit it at the RTO office.
