Using challan 280 you can now pay your income tax online, on the income tax website. You don’t need to rely on your Chartered Accountant, or any other sources to pay your income tax for you. Since many employers pay the income tax on behalf of their employees, since most of the salaried class does not have the need to pay additional taxes.
Online Method of Using Challan 280:
To use the online method, you will need to go to the income tax website, and choose the challan 280 option. You need to choose the option (0021)INCOME-TAX (OTHER THAN COMPANIES) – this is an option used for individuals. Enter all your necessary details into the form, information such as,your PAN details, the assessment year, your residential address, email id, mobile number. Choose the type of tax payment you’re making, it can be the final tax of the year or Self Assessment Tax, or Advance Tax that you’re paying in advance of the financial year ending.
Once you have chosen the type of tax, and filled up the required details, chosen the bank through which you would like to payment from, you will also need to fill in the captcha code. Before you click “Proceed”, ensure you review all the information. After clicking the proceed button you will directed to the Bank’s page (chosen by you), enter you login details, and fill in the required details, such as the income tax amount, and other details by the bank like the account holder’s name, account number etc. After the payment is made, you will get a email as well as be able to download a PDF copy.
Offline Method of Using Challan 280:
When you choose this mode of payment, you will need to download the challan 280 form from the income tax website. You can fill in the details that are required on the form like, PAN details, the assessment year, your residential address, email id, mobile number. Along with the filled form you will need to take the amount of tax you are paying, and physically go to the bank and make the payment towards your income tax.
